Deathbans: Banned for Dying
A deathban is a timed ban that starts when you die. Some servers ban you from the whole server for a while; others, like CosmicPE, ban you only from the event or area where you died, such as an outpost or KOTH, so every life in a contested fight matters.
How does a deathban work?
The Deathbans plugin on Modrinth describes the basic version: it bans players upon death for a configurable amount of time. Other plugins work the same way with their own settings. The ban length is up to each server.
What are event deathbans?
Some factions servers ban you only from the place you died. CosmicPE's examples:
- The CosmicPE wiki says dying in or around its outposts bans you from entering for 8 minutes.
- Its KOTH bars you from returning for 3 minutes after a death, and bans you from entering after 2 deaths.
- Outposts there list 'Deathban' among their limits.
Why do servers use deathbans?
Without them, a big faction could keep respawning and running back into a capture point, and the side with more players would always win by attrition. A deathban makes each death cost something, so skill and healing matter more than numbers.
How do you avoid being deathbanned?
- Leave before you die: pearl out, heal and come back. See ender pearls.
- Do not fight on low health near a capture point.
- Know the ban rules for each event before you go.
Does ArtemisPvP have deathbans?
Yes, for some events: dying at an outpost means a 5-minute death ban from it, the Raid Outpost has a 15-minute death ban, and dying at KOTH stops you going back until it ends. See Outposts, Raid Outpost and KOTH.
How is this different from a combat tag?
