Pillager Outposts: Where They Spawn and What's Inside
Pillager outposts are dark oak watchtowers guarded by pillagers, rarer than villages but less rare than woodland mansions. They generate in village biomes and in mountain biomes such as groves, snowy slopes and the peaks. The tower chest often holds wheat, carrots, potatoes, a crossbow, an XP bottle (60.9%), a goat horn (50%) and sometimes a Sentry armor trim (25%), and pillagers keep spawning around the tower.
Where do pillager outposts spawn?
In any biome that can have villages: plains, desert, savanna, snowy plains, taiga and meadow (Bedrock adds sunflower plains, snowy taiga, taiga hills and snowy taiga hills). They also generate in groves, snowy slopes, jagged peaks, frozen peaks, stony peaks and cherry groves, where villages do not. On Java they never generate inside or too close to a village; on Bedrock they can. Expect one every several hundred to a couple of thousand blocks. See villages.
Why do pillagers keep spawning at an outpost?
- On Java, pillagers spawn continuously in a 72x58x72 area centred on the tower's top floor, reaching 28 blocks up and 30 down, on any valid opaque block (not leaves) at a block light level of 8 or less. Only pillagers spawn there.
- On Java, 6% of them spawn as patrol leaders (captains).
- On Bedrock they spawn at the highest open spot in 1 to 4 fixed columns around the tower, depending on which way it faces.
- They still spawn while you stand inside the tower.

What else do outposts have?
Up to four smaller structures can surround the tower: tents, targets, log piles and cages. Cages can hold an iron golem (85% chance) or allays (50%), both only spawned when the outpost generates. Killing the captain drops an ominous bottle of level 1 to 5, which gives Bad Omen for 100 minutes and can start a raid. See raids.
