Illagers in Minecraft: Pillagers, Vindicators, Evokers
Illagers are hostile villager-like mobs. Pillagers shoot crossbows and roam in patrols, guard outposts and join raids; vindicators charge with iron axes; evokers cast fang and vex spells and always drop a totem of undying. Ravagers are 100 HP beasts that fight with them in raids, and vexes are small flying sword-wielders that evokers summon.
What are the illager mobs?

Why kill evokers?
Evokers always drop a totem of undying (100%), and they are the only source of it. They cast two spells: rows of armour-piercing fangs from the ground, and a group of three vexes. Evokers in mansions do not respawn. See totem of undying.
How do ravagers work?
Ravagers only appear in raids, from wave 3. Depending on the wave and difficulty they come alone or ridden by a pillager or evoker (or, on Java, a vindicator). They charge, bite and roar, can be stunned, and break leaves and crops by charging through them (on Bedrock also most saplings). A killed ravager always drops a saddle. See raids.
How do you deal with vexes?
Vexes only exist because an evoker summoned them, three at a time. They fly, carry an iron sword that never drops, and can pass through walls. Only evokers summon them, so no evoker means no new vexes.
What happens if you name a vindicator Johnny?
A vindicator named Johnny with a name tag attacks almost every mob nearby, even the wither, sparing only ghasts and other illagers. See name tags.
