Goats and Goat Horns: Ramming, Screaming Goats, Horns
Goats live on snowy slopes and jagged and frozen peaks, jump up to 10 blocks high, and every so often ram anything standing still within 4-16 blocks, knocking it back. A goat that rams stone, ore, logs or packed ice drops a goat horn, an instrument that plays a sound you can blow every 7 seconds. 2% of goats are screaming goats with their own horns.
Where do goats spawn?
In groups of 2-3 on snowy slopes, jagged peaks and frozen peaks, on stone, gravel, packed ice or snow. 5% spawn as babies. Goats have 10 HP, take 10 less fall damage, avoid powder snow, and leap up to 10 blocks up and 5 across. See biomes and powder snow.
Why do goats ram you?
Every 30 seconds to 5 minutes, a goat picks a single unmoving target it can see 4-16 blocks away, lowers its head and charges; screaming goats try every 5-15 seconds. Moving out of the way makes it miss. Holding wheat stops a goat preparing to ram and makes it walk to you instead.
How do you get goat horns?
- Let an adult goat ram stone, coal, copper, iron or emerald ore, logs or packed ice: it loses a horn and drops it. Each goat has at most two horns, which never grow back, and 10% spawn with only one.
- Pillager outpost chests have a 50% chance of a goat horn.
- Normal goats drop Ponder, Sing, Seek and Feel horns; screaming goats drop Admire, Call, Yearn and Dream. The Seek horn is the same sound as the ominous horn that announces a raid.
What else can goats do?
Use a bucket on an adult goat to get milk, and feed wheat to breed them (1-7 experience). Two screaming goats almost always have a screaming baby, and a normal and a screaming goat about half the time. See breeding animals.
