Blaze and Enderman Farms for XP, Rods and Pearls
A blaze farm in a Nether fortress gives blaze rods and lots of experience, since blazes have only 20 HP but drop twice the experience of normal mobs. An enderman farm in the End gives ender pearls and experience; the usual design drops endermen from spawning pads high above a platform, with vines at the 43rd block to break the fall, so they land on half a heart, ready for one hit.
How does a blaze farm work?
Find a Nether fortress, then build around a blaze spawner or in the open fortress. A spawner farm is the easiest: the area around a blaze spawner spawns only blazes. Blazes can spawn in midair within a 9 by 9 area around the spawner and one layer above and below, so that space is enclosed. Then a funnel, often pressure plates firing pistons, pushes them into a small killing chamber. See Nether fortresses.
Why build a blaze farm?
Blazes drop twice the experience of normal mobs while having just 20 HP, the same as a zombie, which makes them great for experience. They also drop blaze rods, the only source of blaze powder, which you need for brewing and for reaching the End. See brewing.
How does an enderman farm work?
Build it in the End, at least 128 blocks from any other block mobs could spawn on, so endermen spawn only on your pads. Pistons or tripwires push them off the pads high above a platform; vines placed at the 43rd block up break the fall so they land with half a heart. Hit each one once yourself so the kill counts as yours and drops experience. A simple trap in the overworld also works: look at an enderman so it charges into a pit, then use pistons to weaken it.
What do you get from an enderman farm?
Ender pearls and experience. Pearls are used for travel and, combined with blaze powder, for eyes of ender to find and open the End portal. See ender pearls and endermen.
