Finding Minecraft servers to join

There are thousands of Minecraft multiplayer servers, and most of them are built around one game mode. Picking one is easier once you know which mode you want, which edition you play on and how much time you plan to spend. This guide walks through those choices, then shows where ArtemisPvP, a factions server at play.artemispvp.com, fits.

Start with the game mode

The mode decides what a normal evening on the server looks like:

  • Survival and SMP - build and live alongside other players, usually with little forced PvP.
  • Factions - team up, claim land, build a base, then raid and defend. PvP is the point.
  • Minigames - short rounds such as Bed Wars or Sky Wars, no long-term progress needed.
  • Skyblock and Prison - grind-and-upgrade modes on islands or mines.
  • Practice and duels - pure combat, fast queues, ranked ladders.

Many big networks host several modes behind one address, while smaller servers usually do one thing in depth.

Then check the basics

  1. Edition. Java and Bedrock are separate games. Some servers accept both; many accept one.
  2. Version. PvP servers are often balanced for 1.8.9 combat; survival servers usually follow the newest release.
  3. Account rules. Most public servers require a paid account.
  4. Population at your hours. A server busy at night in one time zone can be empty in yours.
  5. Rules and staff. Read the rules page and look for an active Discord before you invest a season.

General questions - how to join, which version you need, what a server can see about you - are answered on the server FAQ, and finding servers on lists is covered on the server list FAQ.

Playing with friends

A public server is the easiest way to play with friends who are not on your network: everyone types the same address, and nobody has to host. On a factions server, friends start one faction together and share a base, chests and land. On ArtemisPvP that faction can hold up to 30 members, and Java and Bedrock friends can be in it together.
