Mac and Chromebook

Minecraft servers on a Mac or a Chromebook

A Mac and a Chromebook both play Minecraft, but not the same edition: a Mac runs Java Edition and a Chromebook runs Bedrock. That decides which servers you can join and how. ArtemisPvP takes both, so either computer can get you into the same factions world.

On a Mac

Macs run Java Edition. That is good news for a factions player: you can join ArtemisPvP directly at play.artemispvp.com and pick any Java version from 1.8.9, the one the server is balanced for, up to 26.2. Add it under Multiplayer, Add Server, the same way as on Windows. Bedrock Edition does not run on macOS, so a Mac player is always a Java player.

On a Chromebook

Chromebooks run Bedrock Edition. Java is only possible through a Linux setup that Mojang does not support, so most Chromebook players are on Bedrock. Bedrock on a Chromebook lets you add servers from the Servers tab with an address and a port. For ArtemisPvP's Bedrock details, ask in the ArtemisPvP Discord.

Which is better for PvP

For ArtemisPvP's PvP, Java on 1.8.9 is what the combat, the gear and the cannoning are balanced around, so a Mac player can play exactly as the server intends. Chromebook players join on Bedrock and share the same world; they fight under the same rules. Butterfly, jitter and drag clicking are allowed. ArtemisPvP does not publish a CPS limit.

Performance tips

  • Lower the render distance before you enter a busy area such as an envoy or the KOTH hill; crowds and explosions cost frames.
  • Close other apps while you play.
  • On a Mac, 1.8.9 is lighter than the newest versions, which is one more reason PvP players use it.

Once you are in

The Mac player and the Chromebook player land in the same world: factions of up to 30 members, 207 custom enchants, 14 timed events and 51 trial rooms. Start with the beginners guide or the features checklist.
