HCF vs Cosmic-style factions
HCF (Hardcore Factions) and Cosmic-style factions both put teams, land and raids at the centre, but they reward different things. ArtemisPvP at play.artemispvp.com is a Cosmic-style factions server. If you searched for an HCF server, this page shows where the two styles split so you can tell which one you want.
The short version
Common HCF features are potion PvP, deathbans and factions that become raidable after enough deaths. Cosmic-style factions is built around custom enchants, gear progression and timed events instead. In HCF a death is expensive; in a Cosmic-style server the fight is about gear and objectives. What HCF is in full is answered on the factions FAQ.
How ArtemisPvP compares
| Dying | Never lowers your power: every player has a fixed 100 power, and dying never costs land |
|---|---|
| Deathbans | Only in contested places: a 5-minute death ban at outposts and a 15-minute death ban at the Raid Outpost |
| Raids | Possible whenever a faction's shield is down; the shield stops explosions 16 hours a day |
| Gear | 207 custom enchants in 8 rarities, 11 armor sets, masks, pets and charms |
| Objectives | 4 outposts, 2 strongholds, 3 conquests, KOTH every 6 hours |
| Combat version | Built for 1.8.9; newer Java clients up to 26.2 connect too |
Why the power rule matters
In many factions modes, every death drains power, and a faction whose members die too often becomes raidable. That turns every fight into a risk to the base back home. On ArtemisPvP every player keeps a fixed 100 power, so a lost fight costs you the fight and the gear you dropped, not your land. Raids are decided by the shield hours, by your walls and by the other faction's TNT and creepers.
Where the high-stakes fights are
The places that do carry a death ban are the ones worth fighting over. Outposts (4 of them, one per faction at a time) ban you for a 5-minute stretch if you die there. The Raid Outpost reopens after 60 minutes and carries a 15-minute death ban. That keeps the hardcore feeling where it belongs, on the objective, without wiping a whole faction because one member had a bad night.
Which one to pick
Pick HCF if you want short maps, very costly deaths and potion fights. Pick a Cosmic-style server if you want long gear progression, custom enchants to collect and a calendar of events to fight over. If that second one sounds right, the Cosmic-style server page lists everything ArtemisPvP runs.
Does ArtemisPvP have deathbans?
Only in contested places: a 5-minute death ban for dying at an outpost and a 15-minute death ban at the Raid Outpost. Dying anywhere else does not ban you and never costs power.
Is ArtemisPvP an HCF server?
No. It is a Cosmic-style factions server: custom enchants, gear progression and timed events, with death bans only at outposts and the Raid Outpost.
Does HCF have custom enchants?
HCF is usually about potion PvP and deathbans rather than custom enchants. Cosmic-style factions, like ArtemisPvP, is built around them: 207 in 8 rarities.
Is Cosmic-style factions easier than HCF?
Dying is cheaper: on ArtemisPvP dying never costs power, and death bans only happen at outposts and the Raid Outpost. The gear race, the events and the raids are what make it hard.
How long is the death ban at an outpost on ArtemisPvP?
5-minute. At the Raid Outpost it is 15-minute.
Do HCF players like Cosmic-style servers?
Many do, for the factions and raiding. The adjustment is the gear: custom enchants and set bonuses matter as much as aim and potions.
What replaces deathbans on a Cosmic-style server like ArtemisPvP?
Stakes come from gear and objectives. Losing a fight costs the gear you drop; losing an outpost costs the rewards it pays; losing your shield hours to a raid costs your base.
Are potions important on Cosmic-style servers?
Potions are part of Minecraft PvP everywhere, but on a Cosmic-style server like ArtemisPvP the custom enchants and set bonuses carry more of the fight than in HCF.
Do Cosmic-style servers have KOTH like HCF?
ArtemisPvP does: KOTH every 6 hours; hold the hill 15 minutes.
