Overclaiming: Taking Land From Weak Factions
Overclaiming is claiming land that already belongs to another faction. It is only possible when that faction holds more land than its power allows, usually after members die or leave. On some servers, such as CosmicPE, you must start from an outermost claim and work inward.
What does overclaim mean?
FactionsUUID's definitions page puts it simply: an over-claim is when a faction has more land than power, and other factions are then allowed to claim on that faction's territory. Its introduction adds that the weakened faction can also be raided: enemies can destroy blocks in its land.
How does a faction become overclaimable?
- Members die and each death lowers power.
- A member leaves the faction and takes their power with them.
- The faction claimed right up to its limit, leaving no spare power.
The CosmicPE wiki gives the same two causes for that server: a member leaving (minus 150 power there) or enough deaths to put land above power.
Can you overclaim any chunk?
Servers add rules. On CosmicPE, overclaiming can only begin from an outermost claim, a target claim must not be surrounded by claims on all four sides, and core chunks can never be overclaimed. Other servers have their own limits, so read the factions rules before trying it.
How do you avoid being overclaimed?
- Keep spare power: do not claim right up to your limit.
- Avoid pointless deaths outside safe areas, since each one costs power on power-based servers.
- Be careful kicking members during a war.
- Keep the claims that matter (your base) in the middle, so attackers must eat through outer chunks first.
Is overclaiming the same as raiding?
No, though both attack a base. The CosmicPE wiki lists two types of raiding: cannoning and overclaiming. Cannoning breaks through walls with TNT; overclaiming takes the land itself. See raiding explained and faction power.
Can you be overclaimed on ArtemisPvP?
ArtemisPvP does not take land for deaths: dying never costs power or land. A wild claim that runs out of fuel turns Broken, and any faction can take a broken claim. See Factions basics.
