New on a PvP or Factions Server: First Steps
minecraft.wiki's PvP guide gives a clear plan for a new player on a survival PvP server: go solo at first, travel far from spawn away from other players, build a small hidden base, use villager trading to gear up, get an ender chest and potions, and always keep a fallback of food, wood and tools.
What are the first steps?
- Go solo for now; on a factions server, make a faction to protect your things.
- Travel far, in the opposite direction to other players (the guide suggests at least 5,500 blocks, a boat helps).
- Build a small, hidden base, for example underground.
- Find a village and protect the villagers.
- Trade: farmer, armorer, weaponsmith and cleric for gear, pearls and XP bottles; librarians for Protection, Mending, Unbreaking and Sharpness.
- Go to the Nether for blaze rods and nether wart; hunt endermen; make an ender chest.
- Brew Strength II, Swiftness II and Fire Resistance.
What fallback should you keep?
A renewable food source, a renewable wood source, a set of stone tools to restart gathering, ideally a good pickaxe, and backup emeralds to buy new gear.
How do you get money quickly on factions servers?
The guide notes many factions servers let you sell common blocks like cobblestone and dirt. Check the server's shop or sell commands. (It also mentions tricks like luring new players or using glitches; those can get you banned and we do not recommend them.)
Is this different on Cosmic-style factions servers?
Often. On servers like ArtemisPvP you get protected claims, shields and events from the start, so the early game is about joining or starting a faction and claiming land. See how to start a faction and Cosmic-style factions.
How do new players start on ArtemisPvP?
Follow getting started and how to join; Java and Bedrock players can both join.
