KOTH: King of the Hill Events Explained
KOTH (King of the Hill) is a server event where players or factions fight to stand in a capture zone, the hill, until a timer runs out. If an enemy steps on, the capture is contested. Whoever holds the hill to the end wins the loot. It is one of the biggest PvP events on factions servers.
How does a KOTH work?
KOTH plugins describe two common modes. VelKoth's CAPTURE mode is the traditional one: a player must hold the hill without interruption for the whole duration. Its SCORE mode instead adds up capture seconds until someone reaches the target. SH-Koth offers the same capture and score styles in solo and team modes. Team-aware plugins let members of the same faction capture together without contesting each other.
What rules do factions servers add?
The CosmicPE wiki describes its daily KOTH: hold the control point for 15 minutes; if the controller leaves the point the timer resets; capture milestones at 10, 5, 2 and 1 minutes and 30 seconds stop a lost hill from going back to the full time; the winner is combat-tagged at the end so enemies get a last chance; and limits such as reduced knockback and a death cooldown apply.
How do you win a KOTH?
- Bring your whole faction and allies; numbers decide most hills.
- Keep one player on the point while the rest fight around it.
- Use healing and pearls to stay on; see ender pearls and splash potions.
- Reach checkpoints early so losing the hill costs less.
When is KOTH on ArtemisPvP?
Every 6 hours. Use /koth warp to go there. A faction member must hold the hill for 15 minutes; if another faction steps on, it is contested and stops. Checkpoints at 10, 5, 2 and 1 minutes and 30 seconds save your progress. The capper gets $1,000,000, every member on the hill $100,000, and the faction 500 Faction Points. Die there and you cannot return until it ends; if nobody captures, it closes after 90 minutes. See KOTH.
What other events are like KOTH?
Outposts and strongholds are permanent capture zones; see outposts and strongholds.
