Bow Duels on Bedrock Edition

In Bedrock bow duels the bow and sword work together: the bow chips health, breaks momentum and creates openings, and the sword finishes. The core skills are choosing full or partial charge, leading moving targets, strafing while you draw, reading your opponent's shot rhythm, and knowing when to switch to melee.

What are the core bow duel skills?

SkillWhat it means (Bedrock PvP guide)
Full chargeHold to maximum draw for the most damage when range allows
Partial chargeRelease early for faster, weaker shots and pressure
Crit arrowShooting while falling for crit damage; small gain, rarely worth breaking your strafe
Arrow leadingAim ahead of a moving target; account for your own movement too
Bow strafingMove unpredictably while drawing to be hard to hit
Shot pattern readingLearn their draw-release rhythm, then break your own
Lateral calibrationEnough unpredictability to make them mis-lead, not so much you lose aim
Height advantageHigher ground means easier arrows and easier dodges

When do Punch and Flame matter?

Punch knocks opponents toward edges or the void, and on SkyWars-style maps it can be a main way to win. Flame adds fire damage over time, forcing the opponent to tank it or use Fire Resistance. See fire in PvP.

When should you switch to melee?

When the opponent is low, out of arrows, badly positioned, or committed to a move that lets you close. The guide stresses this is a planned decision, not a last resort; rushing a ready opponent at range usually favours the one who stays back.

What about bow boosting?

Shooting yourself with a weak arrow while moving to fly forward. Some servers, like The Hive, disable it; others follow Java's modern behaviour, so learn how your server handles it. Java bow play: bow PvP.

Can Bedrock players duel on ArtemisPvP?

Yes, Java and Bedrock players can both join, and Bows is a duel setting. See Duels and Bedrock PvP techniques.

Frequently asked questions

Should you always fully charge your bow?

No. Full charge does the most damage, but partial charges keep pressure on when there is no time to draw fully.

Is bow boosting allowed on Bedrock servers?

It depends; minecraft.wiki's guide says The Hive disables it.
