Bottles o' Enchanting: How to Get XP Bottles
A bottle o' enchanting (XP bottle) breaks when thrown and drops 3-11 experience, 7 on average. You cannot craft them: get them from master-level cleric villagers for 3 emeralds each, or find them in pillager outpost (60.9%), ancient city (23.7%) and shipwreck treasure (14.1%) chests. They are handy for repairing Mending gear and topping up levels.
Where do you get XP bottles?
| Source | How many | Chance |
|---|---|---|
| Master cleric villager trade | 1 for 3 emeralds, 12 trades in stock | Always offered |
| Pillager outpost chest | 1 | 60.9% |
| Ancient city chest | 1-3 | 23.7% |
| Shipwreck treasure chest | 1 | 14.1% |
Only master clerics sell them: a cleric reaches master level after enough trades. See villager trading.
What are XP bottles good for?
- Throw them at your feet while holding gear with Mending to repair it with the orbs; see Mending.
- Top up levels for the enchanting table or an anvil.
- They carry the enchantment glint, but there is no way to craft or brew them.
How do you use an XP bottle?
Select it and press use to throw it. It shatters where it lands with blue particles and drops 3-11 experience in orbs, which you then walk over to collect. Throw it at your feet so the orbs land beside you.
Are XP bottles worth buying?
Each bottle averages 7 experience, so the cleric trade is a steady emerald-to-XP conversion once you have a master cleric. For other ways to earn XP, including farms, see experience.
