Wilderness Bound (26.3)
26.3, Wilderness Bound, is the Java Edition game drop released on 15 September 2026. It adds the dappled forest biome with poplar wood, red shrubs and shelf mushrooms, plus wool and concrete stairs and slabs, straw beds, cushions and abandoned camps.
What is the dappled forest?
The dappled forest is an autumn-themed forest that generates near cold biomes. It is filled with poplar trees, whose leaves come in red, orange or yellow, along with red shrubs, leaf litter, brown mushrooms, shelf mushrooms and the odd spruce. Fallen poplar trees are more common here than other fallen trees. Sheep, chickens, cows, pigs, rabbits and foxes spawn in it, using their cold variants where they have one.
Poplar comes as a full wood set: sapling, leaves, logs, stripped logs, wood, planks, stairs, slab, signs, hanging sign, button, pressure plate, door, fence, fence gate, trapdoor, shelf and boats.
What new blocks are in Wilderness Bound?
- Shelf mushroom: grows on poplar trees; bouncy like a bed when you land on it, and usable in stews.
- Red shrub: a bush that bone meal spreads to neighbouring blocks.
- Straw bed: lets you sleep through the night without moving your spawn point; it breaks after one use, 4 are crafted from 3 hay bales and they stack to 16.
- Wool stairs and slabs in all sixteen colours, which dampen sound like wool.
- Concrete stairs and slabs, from a crafting table or stonecutter.
What are abandoned camps and cushions?
Abandoned camps are a new structure found in 18 biomes, from meadows and forests to swamps, savannas and the pale garden. Each biome has its own version, built with wool stairs, straw beds and cushions. Barrels hold common items (sometimes cobwebs); common chests can hold copper weapons and armour, buckets, compasses, maps and gunpowder; secret chests can hold iron gear, diamonds, gold, potions and new explorer maps to ancient cities, mineshafts, desert pyramids and warm ocean ruins.
Cushions are a new entity you can sit on. There are 16 colours, each crafted from the matching wool slab, and they stack to 16.
What else changed in 26.3?
- Endermen and shulkers can no longer teleport onto bedrock.
- Endermen riding something now take damage from projectiles.
- Wandering traders can sell poplar logs, poplar saplings and shelf mushrooms.
- Named paintings show their name when you look at them.
