Vindicators in Minecraft: Axe Illagers
Vindicators are illagers with iron axes. They live in woodland mansions and join raids, sprinting at players, villagers and iron golems. With 24 health and hits of 7.5 to 19.5 damage depending on difficulty, they are among the hardest-hitting melee mobs, and their axe disables your shield for 5 seconds. Raid vindicators can carry Sharpness axes.
Where do vindicators spawn?
In groups of 1-3 in woodland mansion rooms on all three floors, sometimes with an evoker; these never respawn. They also appear in raids, more often in later waves and at higher difficulty. On Java they can join a patrol if near a captain. See woodland mansions and raids.
How do you fight a vindicator?
- Expect your shield to be knocked out for 5 seconds after an axe hit.
- Strong armor helps more than blocking; Protection IV on every piece is ideal.
- Back into a 1-block corridor so only one reaches you, or shoot them as they charge.
- Raid vindicators may have Sharpness I, or Sharpness II from wave 6.
- On Normal and Hard, any vindicator can spawn with a randomly enchanted axe, more often at higher regional difficulty.
What is a Johnny vindicator?
Name a vindicator Johnny with a name tag and it attacks almost every mob nearby, not just players and villagers; a reference to a famous film line. See name tags. It even fights vexes, which then turn on it.
What do vindicators drop?
Emeralds, their iron axe sometimes, and experience; raid captains drop an ominous banner and ominous bottle. Illager family: illagers. Sister mobs: pillagers and evokers.
