/title Command: Show Big Text on Screen
/title shows large text in the middle of players' screens, a smaller subtitle under it, or a line on the action bar above the hotbar. On Java you write /title @a title followed by your text, and /title @a times 10 70 20 sets the fade-in, stay and fade-out timing; the defaults are 10, 70 and 20 ticks. It needs operator permission (level 2 on Java).
What is the /title syntax?
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/title @a title <text> | Big title in the middle of the screen |
/title @a subtitle <text> | Subtitle shown under the next or current title |
/title @a actionbar <text> | Text above the hotbar |
/title @a times 10 70 20 | Fade-in, stay and fade-out times |
/title @a clear | Removes the current title |
/title @a reset | Clears the subtitle and resets the times to 10, 70 and 20 ticks |
Targets can be a player name or a target selector; see target selectors.
Why does my subtitle not show?
A subtitle only appears with a title. Send the subtitle first, then the title, or send the subtitle while a title is already on screen. After a title fades out, its subtitle resets to blank, but the times you set stay.
How do you add colour and bold?
On Java the text is a text component, for example /title @a title {"text": "Chapter I", "bold": true}. On Bedrock, plain /title takes formatting codes like §l for bold and §7 for grey, and /titleraw takes JSON rawtext. Java times can use units: 2s is 2 seconds and t is ticks.
What is /title used for?
Map makers use it for chapter screens and countdowns, and servers for announcements and event alerts. Combine it with command blocks to trigger titles automatically; see command blocks.
