Tiny Takeover (26.1)
26.1, Tiny Takeover, is the Java Edition game drop released on 24 March 2026. It gives every baby mob that lacked one a new texture and model, adds the golden dandelion and makes name tags craftable. It is the first release to use the new year-based version numbers.
What changed for baby mobs in 26.1?
Tiny Takeover is about babies. Every baby mob that did not already have its own model got new textures and a new model, so young animals now look like young animals instead of shrunken adults.
The new golden dandelion, crafted from a dandelion and 8 gold nuggets (or bought from wandering traders), stops a baby mob from growing up when you use it on it; use it again and the mob starts ageing again. Green particles drift down when ageing stops and up when it restarts. It does not work on monsters (except baby hoglins) or villagers, and it can be placed and potted like any flower.
Can you craft name tags in Minecraft now?
Yes. Since 26.1, a name tag can be crafted from 1 paper and 1 nugget.
Why is it called 26.1?
26.1 is the first Java Edition release to use the year.drop.hotfix format Mojang announced in December 2025: 26 for 2026 and 1 for the first drop of the year. Its hotfixes were 26.1.1 (1 April 2026) and 26.1.2 (9 April 2026).
It was also the first release that requires Java 25, and the first to ship fully unobfuscated, without an obfuscated variant next to it, which matters to modders and server software.
What technical changes came in 26.1?
- A new
/swingcommand makes entities swing an arm, for example mannequins. - Villager and wandering trader trades became data-driven, so data packs can change them.
- New block tags decide which blocks each plant and crop can survive on.
Can you use 26.1 on ArtemisPvP?
