The End Dimension
General Minecraft

The End Dimension

The End is a dark dimension of End stone islands floating in the void, reached through a stronghold's End portal. A central island holds the Ender Dragon; about 1,000 blocks out are the outer islands with End cities, shulkers and elytra.

What is the End in Minecraft?

The End is a void-like dimension made of separate islands of End stone, home to endermen and shulkers. The Ender Dragon spawns the first time you arrive, and there is no way back until it is beaten. It is usually the last dimension players reach, and beating the dragon shows the End Poem.

The central island is separated from the outer islands by a gap of about 1,000 blocks of void. In Java Edition the End has 5 biomes: The End, Small End Islands, End Midlands, End Highlands and End Barrens.

What works differently in the End?

  • Beds and respawn anchors explode when used, about 25% stronger than TNT.
  • There is no day-night cycle and no weather; the sky flashes purple from time to time.
  • Compasses cannot find spawn and clocks spin randomly; a lodestone compass still works.
  • Eyes of ender cannot be thrown, and players cannot light Nether portals.
  • Fire burns forever on bedrock.

How do you get to the End and back?

Find a stronghold and fill its End portal with 12 eyes of ender (see finding a stronghold), then beat the Ender Dragon. That opens the exit portal home and an End gateway to the outer islands, where End cities and their ships hold elytra.

Is there an End on ArtemisPvP?

Yes. ArtemisPvP's End hosts the End Conquest, the End Envoy and the Timeless Dragon.
