The Copper Age (1.21.9)
1.21.9, The Copper Age, is the Java Edition game drop released on 30 September 2025. It adds copper tools and armour, the copper golem, copper chests and other copper blocks, shelves and new debug screen options.
What does the copper golem do?
The copper golem is built by placing a carved pumpkin or jack o'lantern on a copper block. It has 12 HP, is immune to fall damage, cannot drown, and drops 1-3 copper ingots when killed.
Its job is sorting. With empty hands it goes to a nearby copper chest, picks up items and helps sort them into chests. Like copper, it oxidises over time unless waxed; fully oxidised and unwaxed, it turns into a copper golem statue, and lightning cleans the oxidation off.
Are copper tools and armour worth it?
Copper armour sits between leather or gold and iron for durability, and its enchantability is a little lower than iron's. Copper tools hit as hard and as fast as stone tools, and are more enchantable than diamond but slightly less than iron. Smelting copper gear gives copper nuggets. There is also copper horse armour with an armour value of 4.
What copper blocks were added?
- Copper chest, which oxidises and can be waxed.
- Copper bars and copper chain, like iron bars and chains but waxable.
- Copper torch (a green torch) and copper lantern.
- Oxidised versions of the lightning rod.
- Shelf: a decorative block in every wood type, crafted from six stripped logs.
- Mannequin: a command-only player-shaped entity, like an armour stand.
