How to Tame Wolves, Cats and Horses

Tame a wolf with bones, a cat with raw cod or raw salmon, and a horse by riding it until it stops throwing you off. Each bone or fish has a 1 in 3 chance to tame the animal.

How do you tame a wolf?

Feed it bones. Each bone has a 1/3 chance of taming it; once tamed it gets a red collar and takes no more bones. A tamed wolf has 40 HP, defends you, helps in fights and can wear wolf armour. Its tail shows its health: the lower the tail, the more hurt it is.

How do you tame a cat?

Find a stray cat in a village or swamp hut and feed it raw cod or raw salmon; each fish has a 1/3 chance to tame it. Tamed cats follow you, never despawn, and creepers and phantoms are afraid of them. Press use on a tamed cat to make it sit or stand.

How do you tame and ride a horse?

Mount it with an empty hand, over and over, until it stops bucking you off and hearts appear. Each horse has a hidden temper that starts at 0 out of 100 and rises by 5 every time it throws you, until it passes a random threshold. You need a tamed horse to put a saddle or armour on it, to steer it and to breed it. Feed two tamed horses golden apples or golden carrots to breed a foal.

How do you keep pets safe?

  • Make wolves and cats sit when you go somewhere dangerous.
  • Name them with a name tag.
  • Give wolves wolf armour.
  • Keep horses fenced; fences are 1.5 blocks high, too tall to jump.

Are there pets on ArtemisPvP?

Yes, ArtemisPvP has its own inventory pets with abilities; see Inventory Pets and Gear.
