Taiga Biomes in Minecraft: Spruce Forests, Foxes and Berries
Taigas are cold forests of spruce and pine trees with ferns and sweet berry bushes, where foxes and wolves live. The snowy taiga is the same under snow, and old growth taigas have giant 2×2 spruce trees on podzol. Taiga villages are built of spruce, and cold variants of farm animals spawn here.

What can you get in a taiga?
- Sweet berries from berry bushes, a quick food that also breeds foxes; see food and hunger.
- Spruce wood; 4 spruce saplings in a square grow a giant spruce.
- Podzol and coarse dirt in old growth taigas.
- Ferns and large ferns, and mushrooms, which are more common in old growth spruce taigas.
Where do foxes spawn?
In taigas, old growth taigas, dappled forests, snowy taigas and groves; snowy biomes give white snow foxes. They sleep in the day and hunt chickens and rabbits at night. See foxes.
Does it snow in a taiga?
Normal taigas get rain, which turns to snow above about Y=160. Snowy taigas get snow everywhere, so water freezes; on Bedrock, crops in snowy taiga villages uproot. Igloos and trail ruins can generate in snowy taigas; see igloos.
