Sugar in Minecraft: How to Get It and Uses
Sugar is crafted from sugar cane or honey bottles and brews potions of Swiftness. It is also in cake, pumpkin pie and fermented spider eyes, and it heals and tames horses.
How do you get a sugar?
Craft 1 sugar cane into 1 sugar, or 1 honey bottle into 3 sugar.
What is it used for?
- Brewing potions of Swiftness
- Cake and pumpkin pie
- Fermented spider eyes
- Feeding horses
More about it
Feeding sugar to a horse heals 1 health and makes taming slightly easier. A potion of Swiftness lasts 3:00, or 8:00 extended, and Swiftness II lasts 1:30. Sugar cane grows on sand or dirt next to water, up to 3 blocks tall, so a short farm keeps you supplied.
Tip
Swiftness II is a key PvP potion, so a sugar cane farm pays off fast.
Items and recipes
Most items stack to 64 in one inventory slot; tools, armor, potions and a few others do not stack at all. The recipe book in your crafting screen shows every recipe you have unlocked, and picking up a new item unlocks the recipes that use it. In Creative mode every item is in the creative inventory, and with cheats on the /give command hands you any item by its ID. Items you drop disappear after 5 minutes on the ground, so pick up rare drops quickly. See crafting and Swiftness potions.
