Striders in Minecraft: Ride Across Nether Lava
Striders are passive Nether mobs that walk on lava. Put a saddle on one and steer it with a warped fungus on a stick to cross lava lakes safely. They shiver and slow down on land, take damage from water and rain, and drop 2-5 string. Breed them with warped fungus.
How do you ride a strider?
- Find an adult strider on a lava lake in any Nether biome; they spawn in groups of 2-4.
- Put a saddle on it (a strider ridden by a zombified piglin may already have one).
- Craft a warped fungus on a stick: a fishing rod plus a warped fungus. Hold it to steer; using it gives a speed boost and costs 1 durability.
- Top speed is about 4.2 blocks a second on Java flat lava, and about 9 while boosted.
You do not burn while riding on the surface, but if the strider dips under you can catch fire, so take Fire Resistance for big trips.
What happens to striders out of lava?
On land they turn a dull purple, frown, shiver and move slowly. Water, rain and splash water bottles hurt them, 1 HP per half second in water. They can live in the Overworld if kept dry. A ridden strider steps up one-block ledges and follows anyone holding warped fungus.
How do striders spawn?
In groups of 2-4 on lava with air above it, in every Nether biome. Each one has a 1 in 10 chance of carrying a baby on its back. On Java, 1 in 30 adults spawns with a saddle and a zombified piglin rider holding a warped fungus on a stick, a strider jockey; kill the rider to take the strider. See the Nether.
What do striders drop?
