Stick in Minecraft: How to Get It and Uses

A stick is crafted from 2 planks and is part of almost every tool, plus torches, ladders, fences, signs and more. Dead bushes and leaves also drop sticks.

How do you get a stick?

Craft 2 planks stacked vertically for 4 sticks. Leaves drop 1 to 2 sticks 2% of the time, dead bushes drop up to 3, and fishing gives them as junk.

What is it used for?

  • Tools and weapons
  • Torches and ladders
  • Fences, signs and item frames
  • Bows, arrows and fishing rods

More about it

As fuel, a stick smelts half an item, so planks are better fuel. Bamboo crafts into sticks too: 2 bamboo give 1 stick. Sticks stack to 64, and fletchers and other villagers use them, so keep a stack in a chest near your crafting table.

Tip

Craft sticks from planks only when needed, since one log already gives 8 sticks.

Items and recipes

Most items stack to 64 in one inventory slot; tools, armor, potions and a few others do not stack at all. The recipe book in your crafting screen shows every recipe you have unlocked, and picking up a new item unlocks the recipes that use it. In Creative mode every item is in the creative inventory, and with cheats on the /give command hands you any item by its ID. Items you drop disappear after 5 minutes on the ground, so pick up rare drops quickly. See crafting and wood types.

Does ArtemisPvP have custom items?

Yes: ArtemisPvP has custom gear on top of vanilla items; see Gear.
