Squid and Glow Squid in Minecraft: Ink Sacs
Squid are passive sea mobs that drop ink sacs (black dye and book and quills); glow squid live in dark water underground and drop glow ink sacs, which make signs and item frames glow. Both swim around aimlessly, squirt ink when hurt, and suffocate if they wash up on land.

Glow squid do not spawn in the deep dark (or in sulfur caves on Java). See oceans.
What are ink sacs for?
How do squid behave?
They are passive, ignore players, and swim in three dimensions; their hitbox does not include the tentacles, so hits on the tentacles miss. They share the water mob cap with dolphins and nautiluses, and on Bedrock squid only spawn near the surface. Squid sometimes beach themselves on river banks. When hurt they squirt a cloud of ink and dart away. On land they stay still and suffocate after 15 seconds. Guardians and axolotls hunt them.
