How to Make and Use a Spyglass in Minecraft
Craft a spyglass from 2 copper ingots with 1 amethyst shard on top. Hold it and press use to zoom in: it shrinks your view to a tenth of your field of view, so far-away mobs, structures and players look close. It does not let you see further than your render distance.
How do you craft a spyglass?
Put 1 amethyst shard on top of 2 copper ingots in a vertical line. Copper comes from copper ore (smelt raw copper); amethyst shards from amethyst geodes. See copper and amethyst geodes.
How does the spyglass work?
- Hold use to look through it; it zooms your view to 1/10 of your FOV (Java's default FOV is 70, Bedrock's 60).
- A frame overlay covers the edge of the screen; on Java, F1 hides it.
- You walk slowly while looking through it.
- It only magnifies what is already rendered: distant fog and unloaded chunks stay that way.
What is the spyglass good for?
- Scouting for structures, villages and biomes from a mountaintop before walking there.
- Spotting players or mobs coming in PvP, and checking what armor someone wears.
- Advancements: Is It a Bird? (look at a parrot), Is It a Balloon? (a ghast) and Is It a Plane? (the ender dragon). See advancements.
For seeing in the dark instead, use Night Vision; see status effects.
Is there a zoom without a spyglass?
Not in vanilla. Some clients add a zoom key; see PvP clients. The spyglass is the only built-in zoom.
Is good vision useful on ArtemisPvP?
