The /spreadplayers Command in Minecraft

/spreadplayers teleports players or mobs to random spots on the surface inside a square area. On Java it is /spreadplayers

, for example /spreadplayers 0 0 50 500 false @a. It is the classic way to start UHC, survival games and manhunts, and it never drops anyone on lava or water.

What do the numbers mean?

PartMeaning
centerThe x and z of the middle of the area
spread distanceThe smallest distance between any two targets
max rangeHow far from the center targets can land on each axis, so the area is a square
respect teamstrue keeps each team together on one spot (Java)
targetsWho to spread, such as @a; it works on mobs too

Java also has an under option for caves and the Nether.

What is the Bedrock syntax?

/spreadplayers <x> <z> <spread distance> <max range> <targets> [max height]. Bedrock places targets one block above the highest solid block and also avoids magma blocks, campfires, berry bushes, wither roses and portals.

Where do targets land?

On the highest block at each spot, never on lava, water, bubble columns or fire. If the area is too small for the spread distance, the command fails, so lower the distance or widen the range. In the Nether use the under option, or everyone lands on the bedrock roof; see the Nether roof.

What is it used for?

  • Starting UHC and battle royale games with every team far apart.
  • Random spawn points for survival worlds or minigames like manhunt.
  • Scattering mobs for a boss fight or event.
  • Pair it with a world border to keep players inside the arena.

Who can use it?

Operators at level 2 on Java, or 1 on Bedrock with cheats on. Other movement commands: /teleport.
