Sponges: Where to Find Them and How to Drain Water

Sponges soak up nearby water and turn wet; dry a wet sponge in a furnace or by placing it in the Nether to use it again. You find them in ocean monuments: sponge rooms hold about 30 wet sponges on average, and every elder guardian drops one. Use them to clear water from builds, ocean monuments and flooded caves.

Where do you get sponges?

  • Ocean monument sponge rooms, with an average of 30 wet sponges each.
  • Elder guardians: each drops 1 wet sponge when killed by a player. See ocean monuments.
  • Any tool, or your hand, breaks a sponge and drops it; a hoe is fastest.

How does a sponge absorb water?

A dry sponge placed next to water, or touched by flowing water, instantly removes nearby water, both source and flowing blocks, up to a maximum of 118 blocks of water, nearest first. It then turns into a wet sponge and absorbs nothing more until dried. A sponge in item form never absorbs water.

How do you dry a wet sponge?

Smelt it in a furnace to get a dry sponge back, or place it in the Nether, where it dries instantly with a puff of steam. On Bedrock a wet sponge placed in a dry Overworld biome also dries after a few minutes. See furnaces and smelting.

Does ArtemisPvP have special blocks?

Yes: ArtemisPvP has custom blocks that only work inside a faction claim; see Custom Blocks.
