The Smithing Table in Minecraft: Netherite and Trims
The smithing table upgrades diamond gear to netherite and applies armor trims. Put a smithing template in the left slot, the tool or armor in the middle and the material in the right: a netherite upgrade template, a diamond item and a netherite ingot make netherite gear. It keeps enchantments. It is also the toolsmith's job block.
How do the three slots work?

Every use consumes the template, so duplicate templates with diamonds and the matching block before using them.
How do you upgrade to netherite?
Use a netherite upgrade template (found in bastions), a diamond item and a netherite ingot. The item keeps its enchantments, custom name and the damage it has already taken. See netherite and bastion remnants.
How do you add an armor trim?
Use a trim template, an armor piece and a material; the material sets the trim's color. Templates come from structures across the game; see armor trims.
How do you craft a smithing table?
2 iron ingots above 4 planks. Mine it fastest with an axe. An unemployed villager near one can become a toolsmith; see toolsmith trades. It appears in village toolsmith houses and trail ruins.
How do you copy a smithing template?
Craft a template with 7 diamonds and the block it is made of, such as netherrack for the netherite upgrade, to get 2 templates. Always copy a rare template before you use your only one.
