Shipwrecks in Minecraft: Loot and Treasure Maps
Shipwrecks are sunken sailing ships found in every ocean, and sometimes on beaches or stuck in icebergs. Each has up to three chests: a supply chest at the bow, a treasure chest in the stern, and a map chest that always holds a buried treasure map. Shipwreck chests are the source of the Coast armor trim.
What is in each shipwreck chest?
| Chest | Where | Loot |
|---|---|---|
| Supply | Bow (front) | Food, paper, coal, TNT, leather armor, pumpkins, suspicious stew |
| Treasure | Upper stern | Iron, gold, emeralds, diamonds, lapis, experience bottles |
| Map | Lower stern | Buried treasure maps, paper, compasses, clocks, feathers, books |
The Coast armor trim can appear in these chests; see armor trims.
How do you find shipwrecks?
Swim or boat over oceans and look down; they lie upright, on their side or upside down, and often miss parts. Feeding a dolphin raw fish makes it swim toward the nearest shipwreck or ocean ruin; see dolphins. With cheats, /locate structure minecraft:shipwreck.
How do you use the treasure map?
The buried treasure map shows an X near the coast. Walk to it and dig where the X is to find a chest with a heart of the sea, needed for a conduit. See buried treasure.
Tips
Bring a Respiration helmet or Water Breathing potions, and doors for air pockets on Java. Drowned often lurk around wrecks, sometimes with tridents; see drowned.
Why are some shipwrecks missing chests?
Wrecks generate upright, keeled over on their side or upside down, and many are missing the bow, the stern or the mast. A chest only appears if its part of the ship is still there, so a broken wreck can have one or two chests instead of three.
Frequently asked questions
Which shipwreck chest has the treasure map?
