Saddles in Minecraft: How to Craft and Use One
Since Chase the Skies (Java 1.21.6) you can craft a saddle from leather and an iron ingot; before that they only came from chests, fishing, trading and ravagers, which always drop one. A saddle lets you control horses, donkeys, mules, camels, zombie horses and nautiluses, and lets you ride pigs and striders, which you steer with a carrot or warped fungus on a stick.
How do you get a saddle?
- Craft one from leather and an iron ingot (Java 1.21.6+ and its Bedrock version).
- Fishing: about a 0.8% chance per catch as treasure; see fishing.
- Chests in villages, Nether fortresses, bastion hoglin stables, end cities and abandoned camps.
- Leatherworker villagers sell them at master level; see leatherworker trades.
- Any mob wearing a saddle drops it when it dies.
Which mobs take a saddle?
| Mob | With a saddle |
|---|---|
| Horse, donkey, mule, camel, camel husk, zombie horse | You control it directly (after taming horses) |
| Skeleton horse (Java) | You control it |
| Nautilus, zombie nautilus | You control it underwater |
| Pig | Ride it; steer with a carrot on a stick |
| Strider | Ride it; steer with a warped fungus on a stick |
Happy ghasts use a harness instead. See rideable mobs.
How do you take a saddle off?
From a horse, camel or nautilus, take it out of the saddle slot in its inventory or use shears. Pigs and striders can only be unsaddled with shears. See shears.
What else should you know?
While riding a saddled mob its health replaces your hunger bar. Saddles cannot be enchanted in survival and keep their name when dropped. Horses: horses.
Does ArtemisPvP have custom horses?
