Rotten Flesh in Minecraft: Hunger and Saturation
Rotten flesh restores 4 hunger and 0.8 saturation but has an 80% chance to give Hunger for 30 seconds. It is safe for tamed wolves and can be sold to cleric villagers.
How much does rotten flesh restore?
| Hunger | 4 |
| Saturation | 0.8 |
Each hunger point is half a drumstick, so 4 hunger is 2 drumsticks.
How do you get it?
Zombies, husks, drowned, zombified piglins and zombie villagers drop it, and it is common in chests and as fishing junk.
Tips
Eat it only in an emergency. Clerics buy it for emeralds, which makes zombie farms useful.
More about rotten flesh
Eating more while Hunger is active resets the timer instead of adding to it. Tamed cats sometimes bring rotten flesh as a morning gift, and zombie farms produce it in large amounts.
How hunger works
Hunger points refill the hunger bar (20 points, 10 drumsticks), and saturation is a hidden buffer that drains first. With 18 or more hunger, or any saturation, health regenerates naturally; at 6 or less you cannot sprint, and at 0 you take starvation damage. Most foods take 1.6 seconds to eat, and you cannot eat at full hunger except a few special foods. Foods with high saturation keep you healing longer, which matters most in fights. Raw food cooks the same in a furnace, a smoker or a campfire: smokers are twice as fast, and campfires need no fuel at all. See food and hunger and cleric trades.
