Minecraft /ride Command: Make Mobs Ride Each Other
/ride makes one entity ride another: /ride @s mount @e[type=pig,limit=1,sort=nearest] puts you on the nearest pig, and /ride @s dismount gets you off. On Java almost any entity can ride almost any other, so you can stack mobs or ride a chicken; on Bedrock an entity can only ride things that are normally rideable for it.
How does /ride work?
| Edition | Syntax |
|---|---|
| Java | /ride <target> mount <vehicle> and /ride <target> dismount |
| Bedrock | /ride <riders> start_riding <ride> and /ride <riders> stop_riding |
Bedrock also has evict_riders, summon_rider and summon_ride options to add or remove riders.
What can ride what?
- Java: every entity can ride, but markers, players, fishing bobbers, leash knots and lightning bolts cannot be ridden.
- Bedrock: only combinations allowed by the game's data, such as a player on a horse or a baby zombie on a chicken.
- Riding does not make a mob controllable; steering still needs a saddle or the right item.
Normal mounts: rideable mobs. Natural mob stacks: jockeys.
What are fun /ride examples?
| Command (Java) | Result |
|---|---|
/ride @e[type=zombie,limit=1,sort=nearest] mount @e[type=spider,limit=1,sort=nearest] | A homemade spider jockey |
/ride @s mount @e[type=minecraft:ghast,limit=1,sort=nearest] | Ride a ghast (it flies on its own) |
Summoning with riders in one go uses Passengers NBT; see /summon.
What is /ride for?
Making custom jockeys for maps, carrying players on mobs in minigames, and quick tests. A player put on a mob this way can still get off with the sneak key. Combine it with /execute for many mobs at once.
Does ArtemisPvP have custom horses?
