Resource Packs in Minecraft: How to Install Them
Resource packs change how Minecraft looks and sounds without mods: textures, models, music, sounds, languages, fonts and even the End Poem. On Java, drop the pack's folder or ZIP into the resourcepacks folder inside .minecraft, or drag it onto the Resource Packs screen, then move it to Selected. Bedrock packs install by opening the .mcpack file or from the Marketplace.
How do you install a resource pack on Java?
- Open Options, Resource Packs, and click Open Pack Folder.
- Put the ZIP or folder there; its main file is pack.mcmeta.
- Back in the menu, move the pack from Available to Selected.
- Packs at the top of the Selected list override the ones below.
- Folder location: the .minecraft folder.
Can servers and worlds use packs?
Yes: a world can carry a resources.zip in the resourcepacks folder inside its world folder, which loads automatically above the default pack when you play it, and a server can set resource-pack in server.properties to a download link; players choose whether to accept it. Many minigame servers use packs for custom items and sounds.
How do Bedrock packs work?
Bedrock calls them resource packs too, alongside behavior packs; together they make add-ons. Install by opening an .mcpack file, or get them from the Marketplace, then turn them on in the world or global resources settings. Ray tracing packs unlock RTX lighting; see ray tracing and add-ons.
What packs do PvP players use?
