Raids: How They Work
A raid starts when a player with Bad Omen enters a village: Bad Omen turns into Raid Omen, and when that runs out, waves of pillagers, vindicators, evokers, witches and ravagers attack. Win and you get Hero of the Village, which makes trades much cheaper.
How do you start a raid?
Get the Bad Omen effect (for example from an ominous bottle) and walk into a village. Bad Omen becomes Raid Omen, and when Raid Omen expires the raid begins. In Java Edition, Raid Omen lasts 30 seconds once it appears. Drink milk before it runs out to cancel the raid.
In Java, any area holding a bed, job site block or bell claimed by a villager counts as a village.
How many waves does a raid have?
| Difficulty | Waves |
|---|---|
| Easy | 3 |
| Normal | 5 |
| Hard | 7 |
There is one extra wave if the player's omen was above level one.
What do you get for winning a raid?
Winning gives Hero of the Village: all villager prices drop by 30%, plus 6.25% for each extra level, up to 55% at level V; in Java, villagers also throw you gifts depending on their job. Raids are also a good place to collect totems of undying, because every evoker drops one.
How do you win a raid?
- Fight from cover and use a bow on pillagers.
- Kill evokers quickly: they summon vexes, and each drops a totem of undying.
- Keep villagers alive: the raid is lost if they are all killed or every claimed bed, bell and job site block is destroyed.
- Bring a shield for crossbow bolts; an axe hit disables a raised shield for 5 seconds.
