Potion of Slow Falling in Minecraft: Recipe and Effects
A Potion of Slow Falling makes you float down slowly and take no fall damage for 1:30, or 4 minutes with redstone. Brew it from an Awkward Potion and a phantom membrane. It also stops you trampling farmland and lets you leap almost 6 blocks while sprinting.
How do you brew a Potion of Slow Falling?
| Potion | Made from | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
| Potion of Slow Falling | Awkward Potion + phantom membrane | 1:30 |
| Long Slow Falling | + redstone | 4:00 |
Brew in a brewing stand fuelled with blaze powder: water bottles plus Nether wart make Awkward Potions, the base for most potions; see brewing potions.
What does it do?
You fall slowly and land with no damage. There is no Slow Falling II. Effect list: every potion.
When should you use it?
Essential for the End: drink it when an enderman or the dragon knocks you off, and for shulker Levitation. Also great for building tall structures. See phantoms.
Step by step
Fill three glass bottles with water and place them in the bottom slots of a brewing stand, with blaze powder as fuel. Add Nether wart to make Awkward Potions (Weakness skips this step), then add the main ingredient. Finally add redstone for a longer version, glowstone for a stronger one, or gunpowder for a splash potion. Long Slow Falling lasts 4 minutes, enough for most island hops in the End.
Splash, lingering and tips
Phantom membranes drop from phantoms, which appear if you skip sleeping for several nights. Add gunpowder for a splash version you throw, then dragon's breath for a lingering cloud; see splash and lingering potions. Related: the End.
