Potion of Night Vision in Minecraft: Recipe and Effects
A Potion of Night Vision makes everything look fully lit for 3 minutes, or 8 minutes with redstone. Brew it from an Awkward Potion and a golden carrot. It also brightens water. Add a fermented spider eye to turn it into Invisibility.
How do you brew a Potion of Night Vision?
| Potion | Made from | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
| Potion of Night Vision | Awkward Potion + golden carrot | 3:00 |
| Long Night Vision | + redstone | 8:00 |
Brew in a brewing stand fuelled with blaze powder: water bottles plus Nether wart make Awkward Potions, the base for most potions; see brewing potions.
What does it do?
Night Vision shows the world at light level 15 only for you; other players and mobs see it normally, and it does not stop mob spawning. Effect list: every potion.
When should you use it?
Use it caving, building at night and underwater with Water Breathing. Wandering traders sometimes drink Invisibility at night instead. See golden carrots.
Step by step
Fill three glass bottles with water and place them in the bottom slots of a brewing stand, with blaze powder as fuel. Add Nether wart to make Awkward Potions (Weakness skips this step), then add the main ingredient. Finally add redstone for a longer version, glowstone for a stronger one, or gunpowder for a splash potion. It also gives lava an orange shine and water a blue one, which makes underwater building much easier.
Splash, lingering and tips
Golden carrots are a carrot surrounded by 8 gold nuggets. Add gunpowder for a splash version you throw, then dragon's breath for a lingering cloud; see splash and lingering potions. Related: light levels.
