Plains Biome in Minecraft: Villages, Horses and Flowers
Plains are flat, open grasslands with tall grass, flowers and the odd oak tree. They are the second most common Overworld biome after forests, covering about 10% of the world, and one of the best places to start: villages and horses spawn there, and you can see danger coming from far away.
What is in a plains biome?
- Short and tall grass, bushes and flowers: dandelions, poppies, azure bluets, oxeye daisies, cornflowers and patches of tulips, which only plains and flower forests grow.
- A few oak trees; about 1 in 3 is a large oak and 1 in 20 has a bee nest. See bees and honey.
- Villages built of oak, and pillager outposts; see villages.
- Horses and donkeys, plus cows, pigs, sheep and chickens in their temperate look.
Why are plains good for a first base?
Flat land is easy to build on and light up, villages give you beds, food and trades, and horses make travel fast; see horses. The open view also means fewer surprise creepers. The trade-off is wood: trees are sparse, so collect logs from a nearby forest.
What is a sunflower plains?
A rare variant covered in sunflowers, which always face east, so they work as a compass. Snowy plains are the frozen version; see snowy plains and ice spikes.
What is under the plains?
Dripstone caves are common under inland plains, with sulfur caves less often, and the deep dark sometimes appears near mountains. Plains most often border forests, savannas, sparse jungles, flower forests, sunflower plains and dappled forests. All biomes: biomes.
