The /place Command in Minecraft: Spawn Structures
/place puts a whole structure, a feature such as a tree or ore blob, a jigsaw structure or a saved template into the world where you stand. For example /place structure minecraft:village_plains builds a plains village, and /place feature minecraft:oak builds an oak tree. Java and Bedrock both have it.
What can /place place?
| Form | Places |
|---|---|
/place structure <structure> [pos] | A full structure, such as a village, a desert pyramid or an ancient city |
/place feature <feature> [pos] | A world-gen feature: trees, ore veins, flowers, geodes |
/place jigsaw <pool> <target> <max depth> [pos] | A jigsaw structure built from a template pool |
/place template <template> [pos] [rotation] [mirror] | A saved structure block template (Java) |
What are some examples?
/place structure minecraft:trial_chambersbuilds a trial chamber in your chunk, at its normal underground depth./place feature minecraft:fancy_oakgrows a big oak tree.- Structures still check the ground, so some fail if the spot does not fit, such as an ocean monument on land; see structures.
How does Bedrock /place differ?
Bedrock's /place structure only places trail ruins, trial chambers, abandoned camps and custom jigsaw structures, and it has place feature and place featurerule for features. Full structure templates use Bedrock's /structure command; see structure blocks.
Why use /place?
Testing builds and loot, filling a Creative world with set pieces, or building a map without searching for structures; to find real ones use /locate. It can also place structures that are hard to see in Survival, such as a full ancient city; see ancient cities.
Who can use it?
Operators with level 2, with cheats on in singleplayer. Chests in placed structures usually get their normal loot.
