Piglin Bartering Guide
Wear at least one piece of gold armour so piglins stay neutral, then give them gold ingots: each piglin looks at the gold for 6 seconds and throws you a random item, such as ender pearls, obsidian, string, quartz or a Soul Speed book.
How do you stop piglins attacking you?
Piglins are hostile unless you wear at least one piece of golden armour. Every adult piglin carries a weapon: a golden sword (45%), a golden spear (5%) or a crossbow (50%). Breaking chests or gold blocks near them still makes them angry.
How does bartering work?
Drop a gold ingot near an adult piglin or use one on it. It examines the gold for 6 seconds (120 ticks) on Java, then tosses you a random item. Gold ingots are the only thing piglins barter for. If the mob griefing game rule is off, piglins only barter when you hand them gold directly.
What can you get from bartering?
| Item | Amount | Chance |
|---|---|---|
| Enchanted book with Soul Speed | 1 | 5/469 (about 1.07%) |
| Iron boots with Soul Speed | 1 | 8/469 (about 1.71%) |
| Potion or splash potion of Fire Resistance | 1 | 10/469 each (about 2.13%) |
| Obsidian | 1 | 40/469 (about 8.53%) |
| Ender pearls | 2-4 | about 15.6 gold ingots per pearl on average |
| String | 3-9 | |
| Nether quartz | 5-12 | |
| Crying obsidian | 1-3 | |
| Leather | 2-4 | |
| Soul sand | 2-8 | |
| Iron nuggets | 10-36 | |
| Gravel | 8-16 |
Bartering is the only renewable source of Nether quartz, crying obsidian, soul sand, dried ghasts, gravel, blackstone and the Soul Speed enchantment.
Is bartering worth it?
It turns spare gold into ender pearls, obsidian and Fire Resistance potions, and it is the only way to farm Soul Speed. Pair it with a gold farm for an endless supply; see mob farms and the Nether.
