Parrots in Minecraft: Taming and Shoulder Pets

Parrots are colorful birds that live in jungles. Tame one by feeding it seeds (wheat, melon, pumpkin, beetroot, torchflower or pitcher pod seeds) until hearts appear. A tamed parrot rides on your shoulder, copies the sounds of nearby monsters, and dances to music discs. Never feed a parrot a cookie: it is poisonous and kills it. Parrots cannot be bred.

How do you tame a parrot?

Feed it any seeds; each try has a chance to tame it. Once tamed, walk into it or let it fly to you and it sits on your shoulder; you can carry two. On Java it hops off when you land on a higher block, drop off a ledge, take damage, touch water, fly in Creative, glide or sleep. Tell it to sit by using it. Pets in general: taming pets.

Why do parrots make monster noises?

Parrots imitate the idle sounds of monsters within 20 blocks, a little higher pitched. It works as an early warning: if your parrot hisses like a creeper, look around. On Java they can also copy piglins and hoglins; on Bedrock some neutral mobs such as endermen and wolves. It does not happen in Peaceful.

How do you make a parrot dance?

Play a music disc in a jukebox within 3 blocks of it. It dances until the song ends. Discs: music discs.
