Paper in Minecraft: How to Get It and Uses
Paper is crafted from 3 sugar cane and makes books, maps, cartography tables, firework rockets, name tags and banner patterns. It also zooms out maps in a cartography table.
How do you get a paper?
Craft 3 sugar cane in a row for 3 paper. Cartographers give paper to Hero of the Village players on Java, and librarians trade for it.
What is it used for?
- Books and bookshelves
- Maps and cartography tables
- Firework rockets
- Banner patterns
More about it
In a cartography table, one paper zooms a map out one level, much cheaper than crafting a new map. Bookshelves need 3 books, and each book needs 3 paper and 1 leather, so a library takes a lot of sugar cane.
Tip
A sugar cane farm gives all the paper you need for bookshelves and fireworks.
Items and recipes
Most items stack to 64 in one inventory slot; tools, armor, potions and a few others do not stack at all. The recipe book in your crafting screen shows every recipe you have unlocked, and picking up a new item unlocks the recipes that use it. In Creative mode every item is in the creative inventory, and with cheats on the /give command hands you any item by its ID. Items you drop disappear after 5 minutes on the ground, so pick up rare drops quickly. See crafting and sugar cane farms.
