Nether Gold Ore in Minecraft: Where to Find It and Uses
Nether gold ore is a gold ore in netherrack that drops 2 to 6 gold nuggets instead of raw gold. Any pickaxe mines it. Breaking it angers nearby piglins, even if you wear gold armor or are invisible.
Where is nether gold ore found?
It generates in all Nether biomes from Y=10 to Y=117, 10 times per chunk in blobs of up to 16. On Java, basalt deltas get 20 tries per chunk because there is less netherrack to replace.
How do you mine it?
Mine it with any pickaxe. Fortune can multiply the nuggets: Fortune III has a 20% chance each to double, triple or quadruple them. Silk Touch drops the ore block itself.
What is nether gold ore used for?
- Gold nuggets for golden carrots and glistering melons
- Gold ingots (9 nuggets) for piglin bartering
- Early golden tools and armor
- Experience from mining
Tip
Mine it out of sight of piglins, or wall them off first, since every block of gold you break angers them.
Pickaxes, Silk Touch and Fortune
Most stone-like blocks need a pickaxe: without one they break slowly and drop nothing. Silk Touch picks up a block that normally drops something else, such as an ore or plain stone, and Fortune adds drops to ores but not to plain stone. Blast resistance and hardness decide how well a block survives explosions and how long it takes to break, which matters when you choose a building block for a base. A stonecutter turns stone blocks into stairs, slabs and walls one block at a time, which is cheaper than crafting for stairs (1 stair per block instead of 4 stairs from 6). See tool tiers and piglins.
