Mushroom Fields: The Biome With No Monsters

Mushroom fields are rare island biomes, about 0.14% of the Overworld, always surrounded by deep ocean. Covered in mycelium and huge mushrooms, they are the only place mooshrooms spawn, and no hostile mobs spawn there naturally, even in caves underneath, which makes them a safe place to build.

Where are mushroom fields?

They only generate where the land is furthest from the continents, so they are always islands in deep ocean, far from the mainland. At about 0.14% of the Overworld they are the third rarest surface biome. Crossing deep ocean by boat is one way to look; see boats.

Do monsters spawn in mushroom fields?

No: only red mooshrooms, bats and glow squid spawn naturally, and that includes the caves, mineshafts and other structures underneath. Monsters from other sources still appear, such as monster spawners, raids, phantoms and skeleton horse traps. See mob spawning.

What else is special about mushroom fields?

  • Mycelium instead of grass, and huge red and brown mushrooms, a good source of mushroom blocks.
  • Small mushrooms grow even in full sunlight here.
  • Mooshrooms spawn nowhere else; see mooshrooms.
  • Lush caves often generate underneath when humidity is high, and monsters can spawn in those caves.

How big are mushroom islands?

Most are fairly flat with a few small hills, and they range from just a few blocks to thousands of blocks long. A deep ocean spot near an existing mushroom field is more likely to become another one, so the islands sometimes come in groups. Mooshrooms spawn in herds of 4 to 8, and wandering traders still turn up as normal.

How do you get around ArtemisPvP?

ArtemisPvP has warps to its main spots, including spawn; see Warps.
