Mooshrooms: Red, Brown and Suspicious Stew
Mooshrooms are mushroom-covered cows from mushroom fields. Milk one with a bucket for milk or a bowl for mushroom stew, shear it for 5 mushrooms (it turns into a normal cow), and breed two with wheat. Lightning swaps red and brown mooshrooms, and a brown one fed a flower gives suspicious stew.
Where do you find mooshrooms?
Red mooshrooms spawn in the mushroom fields biome; brown ones never spawn naturally. A lightning strike within 4 blocks turns a red mooshroom brown and a brown one red, without hurting it. Breeding two red mooshrooms also has a 1 in 1,024 chance of a brown calf. See weather and lightning and biomes.
What can you get from a mooshroom?
- Use a bucket to get milk, like a cow.
- Use a bowl to get mushroom stew.
- Use shears to get 5 mushrooms of its colour; it becomes a normal cow and the mushrooms do not grow back.
- Breed two with wheat; a mooshroom cannot breed with a cow.
How do you get suspicious stew from a mooshroom?
Feed a small flower to a brown mooshroom, then milk it with a bowl: you get a suspicious stew whose effect depends on the flower. Red mooshrooms never give suspicious stew. See food and hunger and status effects.
What else should you know?
Baby mooshrooms have no mushrooms on their backs until they grow up; feeding them wheat shortens the wait by 10% of what is left each time. A red and a brown parent have an even chance of either colour. See breeding animals.
