Can You Play Minecraft in VR?
Not officially anymore. Bedrock Edition used to support VR on Windows headsets such as Oculus Rift, Meta Quest (through Link) and Windows Mixed Reality, and on PlayStation VR. Mojang announced the end of VR support in late 2024, and access to VR gameplay was removed in Bedrock 1.21.80 in 2025. Java Edition never had official VR.
What happened to Minecraft VR?
- Bedrock for Windows had a VR mode for supported headsets, launched with a special shortcut.
- PlayStation 4 had PlayStation VR support.
- On 17 September 2024 Mojang said PlayStation VR support would end in March 2025.
- On 22 October 2024 that was extended to all VR devices.
- Bedrock 1.21.80 removed access to VR gameplay.
How did VR mode work?
There were two views: Living Room Mode, where you watched the game on a screen inside a cozy Minecraft room, and Immersive Mode, where you stood in the world in first person with full head and hand tracking. Players could switch between them with a button. Motion controllers let you aim and swing with your hands in Immersive Mode.
Can you still play in VR?
Not through any official edition. The Gear VR Edition, a separate phone-based version, was discontinued long ago too. Players who want VR today use unofficial Java mods, which Mojang does not support. For normal play, see Minecraft editions.
What can you do instead?
Bedrock's Vibrant Visuals and Windows ray tracing make the game look far more immersive on a normal screen; see Vibrant Visuals and ray tracing.
