How to Change Your Minecraft Skin
On Java, change your skin in the Minecraft Launcher or on your profile page by uploading a 64x64 PNG and choosing wide (4-pixel) or slim (3-pixel) arms. On Bedrock, use the Dressing Room: build a Character Creator skin, pick a skin pack, or import a classic skin. You need to own Minecraft to change your skin.
How do you change your skin on Java Edition?
Open the Minecraft Launcher (or your profile page) and upload a valid PNG that is 64x64 pixels, or an old-style 64x32 texture. Choose the arm width there too: classic skins have 4-pixel-wide arms, slim skins 3. Only players who have bought Minecraft can change skins. A resource pack can replace the default skins, but only you see that change.
How do you change your skin on Bedrock Edition?
Open the Dressing Room from the main menu, profile or pause menu. There are two kinds of skin:
- Character Creator skins, built from body parts and clothing items; many items are free and some cost Minecoins.
- Classic skins: a wide or slim model with a skin from a skin pack or a PNG imported from your device.
The Dressing Room keeps five skin slots, plus capes and emotes. Skin packs come from the Marketplace; see add-ons and the Marketplace.
What are the default Minecraft skins?
There are nine: Steve, Alex, Ari, Efe, Kai, Makena, Noor, Sunny and Zuri. Ari, Kai, Steve, Sunny and Zuri have wide arms; Alex, Efe, Makena and Noor have slim arms. You can always switch back to one of them for free.
How does a skin file work?
A skin is a flat 64x64 image folded around the player model. It has an inner layer and an outer layer, each with 1,632 usable pixels; the outer layer sits slightly larger and is used for hats, glasses and jackets, and can be see-through. Bedrock can also use 128x128 skins. A skin is 32 pixels tall on the model. Even Bedrock's Character Creator height setting does not change your hitbox; see PvP terms.

What size is a Minecraft skin?

Do skins change your hitbox?
No. Skins are only a texture; Bedrock's Character Creator height changes the camera, not the hitbox.
