Minecraft Dungeons: What It Is and Is It Worth It
Minecraft Dungeons is a dungeon-crawler action game by Mojang Studios and Double Eleven, released on 26 May 2020. Up to four players team up to fight through levels against the Arch-Illager. Its last update, 1.17.0.0, was announced on 28 September 2023, but it can still be bought and played. A sequel, Minecraft Dungeons II, came out on 29 September 2026.
What kind of game is it?
A top-down action RPG: you pick gear instead of a class, swap weapons, armor and artifacts, and use enchantments on them. Levels are partly random. It supports up to four players in multiplayer, all working together against the Arch-Illager. It is a separate game from Minecraft, with no building or mining. It was first planned as a singleplayer game for the Nintendo 3DS, and its internal name was Lovika. Main game: Minecraft editions.
How much does it cost?
The Standard Edition is US$19.99, and the Ultimate DLC Bundle with all six DLCs is another US$19.99. It is included with Xbox Game Pass Premium, Ultimate and PC Game Pass. It runs on Windows, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and other platforms.
Does it have Minecraft mobs?
Yes, many: zombies, skeletons, creepers, illagers and more, plus mobs made for Dungeons. Its villain, the Arch-Illager, leads an illager army; normal illagers: illagers.
Is there a Minecraft Dungeons 2?
Yes: Minecraft Dungeons II, announced at Minecraft Live in March 2026 and released on 29 September 2026. Other spin-offs: Minecraft Legends and Minecraft: Story Mode.
