Woodland Mansions, Pillager Outposts and Mineshafts
Woodland mansions are huge three-floor buildings in dark forests and pale gardens, full of vindicators and evokers, and one of the only places to get totems of undying. Pillager outposts are watchtowers where you find raid captains and ominous bottles. Mineshafts are the most common structure, tunnels with rails, chest minecarts and cave spider spawners.
What is in a woodland mansion?
A woodland mansion is a massive, randomly laid-out building with three floors, found rarely in dark forests and pale gardens and often far from spawn. The first floor only has rooms with vindicators; from the second floor up, big rooms can hold evokers too. Allays are kept in cells in jail rooms. Mansions are one of the only places to get totems of undying. Once killed, the illagers do not respawn. Dark rooms mean other mobs can spawn inside too. See totems of undying.
How do you find a woodland mansion?
Buy a woodland mansion map from a cartographer villager or find one in an abandoned camp's secret chest. The map may not point to the nearest mansion.
What is a pillager outpost?
An outpost is a watchtower that always generates, with up to 4 smaller structures around it, such as tents, targets, log piles and cages that can hold an iron golem or allays. Pillagers keep spawning in and around it, so it is one of the most reliable places to find raid captains. Kill a captain for an ominous bottle; drinking it gives you Bad Omen, which starts a raid when you reach a village or makes trial chambers harder. What is in a mineshaft?
- Interlinked 3x3 tunnels with broken rail lines and plank supports, starting from a 10x10 room.
- Chest minecarts with loot, and cave spider spawners hidden in cobweb-filled side passages.
- In badlands, mineshafts often appear on the surface, built from dark oak, where gold ore is also common.
Mineshafts are the most common structure in the Overworld, with a 0.4% chance to start in every chunk, and can generate in any Overworld biome except the deep dark. See monster spawners and minecarts.
