Mangrove Swamps in Minecraft: Biome Guide

Mangrove swamps are warm, muddy swamps full of tall mangrove trees with roots that reach into the water. They often border deserts, savannas, jungles, forests and plains, and turn into normal swamps in cooler areas. The floor is mud, frogs spawn as the warm variant here, and slimes and the bogged can spawn. They were added in The Wild Update (1.19).

What blocks are in a mangrove swamp?

  • Mangrove logs, roots, leaves and propagules (the saplings), which grow under water too.
  • Mud and muddy mangrove roots; see mud.
  • Bee nests in some trees.
  • Seagrass and lily pads in the teal water.
  • On Java, no mushrooms generate here.

What mobs live there?

Frogs (the warm variant), slimes at night between Y=50 and Y=70, most often on a full moon, bogged skeletons, and the usual monsters. Frogs: frogs. Slimes: slimes. Bogged: the bogged.

How is it different from a normal swamp?

Normal swamps are cooler, with oak trees, witch huts and mushrooms; mangrove swamps are warm, with mangroves, mud and no witch huts. Normal swamps: swamps.

Tips

Travel by boat; the roots slow walking. Collect mud for mud bricks and propagules for a waterside base. Mangrove wood has a red color that suits docks and boardwalks; see wood types.

How do you find one?

Look in warm, flat lowlands near deserts and jungles, or use /locate biome minecraft:mangrove_swamp. They never border the ocean directly, but rivers and beaches can join them to it. Lush, dripstone or sulfur caves may lie underneath.

Frequently asked questions
